Scouts try dive

14 scouts from the 4th harpenden scout group attended a try dive evening with Trident sub aqua club at the Hatfield leisure centre recently. Two waves of scouts ranging from 8 to 14 were given the chance to breath underwater for the first time. Richard Aldridge dive officer for trident who organised the event said "it was a bit chaotic to begin with sorting out the right sized kit to suit the different sized scouts, but in the end they all had a good time. We put a bar football table in the shallow part of the pool, which most of the scouts enjoyed playing".

While not under the water the scouts had fun on the giant inflatable assult course courtesy of the pool.

The event fits in with the club's intention of applying for the club mark award, and for youth funding from sport England. We hope to be able to run this kind of event on a regular basis for other scout groups in the local area said Richard.

Many thanks to hatfield leisure centre for hosting the event.

VISIT TO DIVE TRAINING CENTRE, YORK

I January 12 members of the club went to the Dive Training Centre in York where we spent the day, One half of the day was spent kitting up in a Hard Hat divers suit and diving in their 6m tank where we performed various tasks as would the hard hat divers would have at work. The other half of the day every diver entered a decompression chamber at taken down to 50m where it was good time to check their depth gauges, also to see the effect on a empty lemonade bottles and tennis ball.
